4:31pm Friday 27th January 2012
Elin Jones has wished the Urdd a happy birthday as the youth movement celebrates its 90th birthday today.
Since being formed in 1922, Urdd Gobaith Cymru has grown from strength to strength, and by now is a cornerstone of Welsh culture.
The Urdd is also a major employer in the Ceredigion economy, with members from all over Wales coming to its camp at Llangrannog each year.
Ceredigion’s Assembly Member, Elin Jones, said: “Since I was a child, the Urdd as played a significant role within my life, and I have many cherished memories of competing while I was younger.
“I firmly believe it has been a crucial movement within Wales over the last decades on the basis of promoting our culture, language and traditions, and I hope it will continue to inspire Welsh children for years to come”.
