All set for Beca Race
4:05pm Thursday 26th August 2010
Cross country and fell runners from a wide area are expected to compete in the 33rd annual Beca Race over a gruelling five-mile course in the Preseli Mountains on Saturday (August 28).
The Beca was first run in 1977 to commemorate the 19th century Rebecca Riots when farm workers disguised as women smashed tollgates across the country.
Former St Dogmaels triathlete Aled Rees, who won the race three times, still holds the record of 32 minutes five seconds set in 1995.
Last year’s winner was Ian Williams of Bwlchygroes near Boncath, a member of the Trots club.
The race that starts and finishes at Crosswell is preceded by the one-mile Ras y Mochyn Du for children at 1.30pm.
